Playing with us

We have the following vacancies

  • Trombone (2nd seat). Preferably able to improvise.
  • Musical Director. We are currently preparing a Job Description for this important role. If you would like to register an interest, we will send you details of the job and the application process when it is ready.

In either case, please contact our Chairman, Steve Golding, by email at chair@bjbb.org.uk

Deputies

We also have occasional demand for deputies, to fill in when permanent members are away. So whatever big band instrument you play – please contact us.

Whilst the band normally charges for performing, our members do not receive any fees or expenses individually. All earnings go toward paying for our rehearsal space, music, insurance and other running costs. We perform for the enjoyment of playing music and hope that anyone who deputises with us will feel the same. However, we do understand that exceptional circumstances can arise and the band will consider any request from a deputy for a contribution toward their expenses if necessary.

In terms of playing ability, we don’t require any specific qualification but, as a guide, Grade 5 would be around the minimum. However, we are more interested in how you fit in with the band and are quite prepared for you to use the opportunity to progress your playing standard. Having said that, if you are already of a higher standard, then you would be even more welcome!

We normally rehearse on a Tuesday evening in Hullavington, which is just north of junction 17 of the M4. We usually have quite a busy and interesting programme of events throughout the year.

If you are interested in trying out with us, please contact our Chairman, Steve Golding, by email at chair@bjbb.org.uk
